Healthy Homes Iowa

Health Homes Iowa is a collaborative effort between EveryStep and community partners to reduce health hazards with homes in Polk County.

Eligible homeowners can receive free assessments and modifications to address issues that can cause potential illness or injury. 

Some of the most serious health problems for children and seniors may start at home.

Many things inside a home can cause injury or illeness, especially to children and older adults.  Some potentional home health hazards include:

  • Issues with moisture
  • Poor ventilation and air quality
  • Trip hazards
  • Lead referrals
  • Child safety
  • Asthma triggers

Eligibility requirements

  • Polk County resident
  • Homeowner
  • Income guideline requirements met
  • At least one of the following conditions:
    • Asthma in  a Child Under 18
    • Child injury prevention for children 0-6 years old
    • Aging in Place: Age 62+ or individuals with a disability
  • All interventions must be related to the health and safety of the resident

Home Modifications

This program is for homeowners.  If a household qualifies, an EveryStep consultant can visit the home to make a full assessment and recommendations, provide education, help residents obtain items to make their space safer, and coordinate contractors when necessary.
