Hawki: Free and Low Cost Insurance for Kids
Health and Well Kids in Iowa (Hawki) offers free or low-cost medical and dental insurance for childrent up to age 19 in families with low or moderate incomes. The monthly premium costs are based on household size and income, but no family pays more than $40, regardless of how many children they have. In fact, this resource is open to many families that are unaware of their eligibility - making Hawki a highly underutilized tool in Iowa.

EveryStep assists uninsured and underinsured children and pregnant women sign up for Hawki and Medicaid insurance. Our staff can also assist with finding a doctor and dentist. Assistance from EveryStep is free and available year-round. Staff servin Polk, Dallas, Madison and Warren counties speak English and Spanish; other languages are served by a language line. Our staff can help with the following items:
- Answering questions about Hawki and Medicaid to determine eligibility
- Assisting with completing an application for Hawki & Medicaid
- Providing same day coverage through the Presumptive Eligibility Medicaid process
- Help families through next steps
