SHAZAM Volunteers Ready to Spread Cheer with EveryStep This Holiday Season
Cheer Box season is a magical time of year at EveryStep. Over the course of seven days, thousands of gifts will be wrapped, packaged into hundreds of gift boxes, and hand-delivered to a deserving Iowa family that is spending its first holiday season after suffering a loss.
None of it is possible without the hundreds of "elves"- like the volunteer team from SHAZAM - who make this seemingly impossible task a reality.
"The Cheer Box program is something our team looks forward to every year. It gives us an opportunity to connect with co-workers, share in the holiday spirit, and support people navigating grief," says Jackie Rolow, SHAZAM's Executive Vice President and Chief HR Officer, "It’s also a reminder of what matters most as we enter the holiday season."
When it comes time to volunteer, she says, her staff doesn't hesitate. "SHAZAM has supported the program for many years, and our volunteer spots consistently fill quickly."
Jackie says the SHAZAM team has seen the Cheer Box program from both sides – giving and receiving. " What makes the program even more meaningful is that several SHAZAM employees have received Cheer Boxes after losing a loved one. They’ve shared how much that simple gesture meant during such a difficult time," Jackie says, "Hearing their experiences reminds us of the real impact behind the program and makes the opportunity to give back even more meaningful."
On a personal level, Jackie says she has always felt a connection with EveryStep's hospice program. "I have firsthand experience helping a loved one through hospice, and it’s difficult to fully understand that journey until you experience it yourself. It’s incredible that EveryStep is there to serve patients regardless of their insurance coverage or ability to pay," she says, "The hospice team truly goes above and beyond to support not only patients, but also their family and even their pets."
