Why I Enjoy Working at EveryStep: Hospice
EveryStep recently received its seventh Top Workplaces honor by The Des Moines Register. This recognition is a testament to the employees who make EveryStep the organization it is.
For 111 years, EveryStep employees have provided compassionate care to patients and clients across the state. With more than 30 programs, EveryStep strives to reach those in our communities at every step of their lives.
EveryStep Hospice does just that in 44 counties stretching across the southern half of the state. With office in Centerville, Council Bluffs, Knoxville, Des Moines, Mount Ayr, Mount Pleasant, Osceola and Perry, our teams of nurses, aides, spiritual care counselors, assistants, directors and others truly embody the EveryStep mission.
Today, our EveryStep Hospice team members share in the organization’s recognition, and proudly exclaim just why they enjoy working for EveryStep.
“I love my job, and I have enjoyed getting to know all the volunteers. I love seeing the volunteers work with the patients and families to develop good rapport and relationships. Making someone’s journey joyful and fulfilling is a wonderful thing to experience. I enjoy helping others have quality of life, comfort and dignity for as long as they are alive. It is an honor to arrange visits, coordinate education, and provide the tools to volunteers to help others.” - Angela Dodge - EveryStep Hospice volunteer coordinator in Osceola and Mount Ayr.
“I feel it’s an honor to walk alongside patients, promoting dignity and comfort, while helping them live with the highest quality of life and celebration possible.” -
Cheryl Dean – team director for EveryStep Hospice Knoxville.
“Working at EveryStep Hospice at Kavanagh House is a privilege. We learn so much from our patients and their loved ones. I consider it an honor to work with other nurses, providers, hospice aides, team director and assistant, volunteers, social workers, and spiritual counselors who all provide such quality dedication and expertise needed for end-of-life cares. The values of EveryStep are evident at Kavanagh House. We act with integrity and respect, serve with compassion, lead through excellence and unite through teamwork. I feel fortunate to be a part of this organization!” -
Sandy Klever, hospice registered nurse
“Our team is truly a second family that cares for each other and about what we do together for our patients and their families. I also appreciate so much not just what we do but how we do it. Anybody could do what we do to just check boxes and get a paycheck. It is the passion, compassion, professionalism, continual pursuit of excellence, and integrity that sets EveryStep apart.” -
Gordon Hawkins, spiritual care counselor in Mount Pleasant
“EveryStep is an organization that truly cares about their employees. We promote a good work life balance which causes the ripple affect. It allows our staff to work at their highest potential which in turn allow us to provide the very best care to our patients and their families.” –
Kim Verrips , team director EveryStep Hospice in Mount Pleasant
I started working for EveryStep Hospice, then Hospice of Central Iowa, close to 10 years ago and have always been proud to tell people that I work for the oldest non-profit hospice in Iowa. It is an honor to work with the amazing, knowledgeable, caring and compassionate staff at EveryStep and to serve the patients and families that we care for everyday. There is no other agency that I would rather work for and I continue to be grateful that I chose to further my Social Work career at EveryStep! –
Katie Smith, EveryStep Hospice social worker in Mount Pleasant.
