Jenny Woolman Joins EveryStep Hospice as Des Moines Team Director
EveryStep Hospice is pleased to welcome Jenny Woolman as director of the Des Moines team, which provides hospice services to individuals in Boone, Dallas, Greene, Hamilton, Jasper, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Story and Webster counties.
Jenny has 18 years of experience in hospice and palliative care, most recently as director of hospice for WesleyLife Hospice. She also has served in hospice and palliative care positions with Care Initiatives Hospice and MercyOne Hospice. Jenny says her passion for hospice began in nursing school. “I asked to precept at the Mercy Johnston Hospice House and I fell in love with hospice immediately. To me, hospice is the ultimate of care. Our lives get to be touched every day by the journeys and life stories of those we are privileged to walk with during their end-of-life journey — what a blessing.”
Jenny cited EveryStep’s reputation as the founding hospice organization in Iowa and its place in the community among the reasons she looks forward to her position with EveryStep. “I believe EveryStep stands apart for doing the right thing at the right time for the community — whether at end-of-life, the beginning or between. I look forward to being a part of a culture that is individual and team focused, because when you focus on the team, team takes care of the community.”
Jenny received an associate degree in nursing from Mercy College of Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Purdue University, graduating from both with academic honors. She received her Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland with certificates in palliative care, philosophies of hospice and palliative care, and leadership.
Originally from Norwalk, Jenny now resides in Carlisle where she enjoys spending time outdoors, reading and crocheting.
EveryStep has been offering nonprofit care and support for Iowans since 1908, with at least one of its 30-plus programs in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Staff and programs provide support and education to young moms; assistance to immigrants and refugees; in-home care to people who are ill, injured or facing the end of life; and compassionate support to families during times of grief and loss.
